The following is a list of some of the available services for Veterans

The City of Norwalk is proud to recognize the service of United States Veterans. We are committed to working together with Veterans to discuss their issues and to collaborate with Veterans seeking services, benefits and information.

The following is a list of organizations that provide assistance to Veterans for their honored service.

In addition, the City has joined with local and national partners to bring the following programs to Norwalk residents who are serving or who have served our country:

Mercy Housing: Veterans Villas at San Antonio Drive

The lease up process will begin in Spring 2024 for an approximate move-in period of Fall 2024. Please check www.norwalkveteranshousing.org in Winter 2023 for application information.

Veterans Villas at San Antonio Drive is the new construction of 60 affordable rental homes for veterans who have experienced homelessness and families with a veteran head of household. Located at the corner of Foster Road and San Antonio Drive, this new community will provide safe, healthy, and affordable apartments, as well as professional management staff and resident services programming intended to support veterans and their families.

Hometown Heroes Banner Program

In September 2017, City Council reinstated the Hometown Heroes Program, which honors active duty and active reservists living in Norwalk by flying a commemorative banner bearing their name along Imperial Highway for a period of one year.  Banners are free, and are presented to the honoree or his or her family at a City Council meeting after display. To apply, visit http://www.norwalk.org/hometown-heroes.

Wounded Warrior Parking

On Veterans Day, City Council cut the ribbon on the City's first "Purple Parking" stall.  Wounded Warrior Parking recognizes the sacrifices of soldiers injured in the line of duty through the installation of a reserved parking space with easy access to facilities.  Look for these special marked stalls at City Hall, the Norwalk Social Services Center and the Norwalk Senior Center.

Pets for Troops

Free Veteran Pet AdoptionThis program, offered in conjunction with the Southeast Area Animal Control Authority (SEAACA), provides pet adoption at no cost for active duty and veteran residents.  Adoption includes spay or neutering, micro-chipping and the first set of vaccinations.  The City is also including a complimentary six week obedience course at Petco to facilitate the bond between pet and owner. Adoptions must be made through SEAACA to be eligible. Licensing fees apply. Contact SEAACA at (562) 803-3301 for more info.
