Current military service personnel may be honored as a Hometown Hero with a personalized banner displayed
along Imperial Highway with their name and military branch. Applicants must be:
- Currently serving on active duty or as an active reservist in any branch of the US military, AND
- A Norwalk resident or family member of a Norwalk resident. Family member must be immediate (brother, sister, spouse, parent, or grandchild). Applicant may reapply every year, but priority will be given to those who have not been issued a banner.
Applications will be accepted May 1 to August 15.
A photo of honoree in uniform must be provided with application to be accepted. Honoree's picture or rank will not be included on the banner, but will be used to highlight their service on city's digital and other printed platforms.

Banners will be returned to the family/honoree one year from posting date during a presentation at the Norwalk Veteran's Day Event (November 11). Banners may also be picked up at the City Hall Information Center with prior arrangement. The city will not keep banners that are not picked up before December 31 of the same year.
